I only want to write content Once, and so when we write the newspaper, I want the same content to be available on the website, currently in wordpress with similar font/layout information. A straight copy and paste mucks up the formatting as In Design has very complex formatting options.

  1. Copy text with all formatting from the in Design text box.
  2. Paste into Word blank page
  3. Save As HTML, filtered.
  4. Open HTML in Text Editor (BBEdit)
  5. Copy Text between the Word DIV tags
  6. in Wordpress, Open a HTML Block
  7. Paste in the HTML and it looks very close to the In Design format.

3 - Registering a Not-for-profit association

Notes on registering an incorporated Body in Tasmania

Steps

  1. Pick a name for the incorporated body. Should it have INC or Incorporated at the end?
  2. Create the model rules based on templates and charity registration requirements.
    1. There are specific items that must be in the constitution to gain Income Tax Exempt.
  3. Pick the members of the first committee and members of the organisation.
    1. This will be needed for the registration to know who the Public Officer is.
  4. Register with CBOS
  5. Once paperwork is approved, register for ABN.
  6. Wait until ABN appears on ABR.business.gov.au before moving to next steps. (lesson learned)
  7. Register Website etc with ABN
  8. Use templates for registers needed ie committee, members, assets, AGM
  9. Have the first official committee meeting and officially elect the committee, this is needed for gaining the Bank account. They will need Proof of Constitution, minutes and Certificate.

What is LDL?

LDL stands for low-density lipoprotein. It’s a type of lipoprotein found in your blood. Lipoproteins are particles made of lipids (fats) and proteins that carry fats through your bloodstream. Fats, because of their structure, can’t move through your blood on their own. So, lipoproteins serve as vehicles that carry fats to various cells in your body.   • Red meats, like steak, ribs, pork chops and ground beef.

9 - Thoughts from USA Visit

I’ve recently returned from 3 weeks visiting Porterville in Central California, the food bowl of California. Here are my initial thoughts from an Australian/Tasmania perspective:

  1. I’m glad Australia has consumer laws that require the price shown, is the price to be paid. In California, the price shown is the price before Tax and before staff wages. I might see a Burger for $7.50, but when I go to purchase the burger, its closer to $9. This adds up considerably for a family meal.
  2. Lots of people buy bottled water for drinking. Apparently something happened with the water supply a while ago and now its no longer trusted. Transporting water by truck in small bottles is not great for the environment.
  3. ICE is everywhere and everyone drinks cold Tea and Coffee. Which is understandable when the temperature is in the 40s. But the same is not the case for north Australia with similar temperatures and very little ICE available for drinks.
  4. Before renting a Tesla, check if there is a supercharger near by! Porterville had none, and the nearest one was 30 minutes away!!
  5. Food Businesses expect you to customise! The menu is only the base selection, then you add or delete. If you order directly from the menu, the person will wait for you to provide a modification. In Australia, I would expect a response like, “I’ll have to ask if its OK”.
  6. VISA Paywave and Apple Pay are not common, cash is still very much used. We went to a very large department store, Wallmart and we couldn’t use the checkout as the machine needed a physical VISA card to swipe or cash!?

I’m very happy to return to Tasmania, we are far ahead in many basic services, if only we also had rockets that land:-)

First Meet: Our first meet is on Saturday September 23 with marshalling for information before warm-ups occurring at 8:30am ready for an approximate 8:50am start. Uniform: Our uniform consists of a green and black top with plain black shorts. Please note it is important to always be wearing club uniform. This is a State Little Athletics requirement. Our tops, hoodies and caps are available for purchase at the track. On the day: When you arrive at the athletics track located on Dial Road (just above the school and twin ovals - you can park on the grass carpark inside the driveway to the left or below at the football ovals). We have some fantastic committee members meeting you at the gate to assist you - if you cannot find us near the gate - please look for a black polo shirt. Sign-ins: Please sign in your children as you enter. If you are an unregistered athlete, please ensure you sign in on arrival. All athletes will be required to wear nametags to assist with marshalling and our committee members get to know everyone. New name badges and safety pins will be provided during the season.

11 - Renting Tesla

2023-09-02 rented Tesla from LA and drive to Porterville. Learned that Tesla Chargers are not in every town yet, and you need adapters to charge. Learned that the J-1772 Adapter is a slow charge, fine if you are shopping or working somewhere for 3 hours, but not it you need a full charge and it will take 8 hours. Next time renting: Check places visiting for Tesla and if none, make sure there is both a J-1772 AND CCS adapter available in car.

  • Have plenty of footage before and after a scene to allow editing, text prompts, and transitions (if needed)
  • Make sure the headings fit the other training media.
  • Have an index of activities at the start and make sure each segment fits.

Export iPhone Video in Portrait instead of 1080P landscape

I have a iPhone video recorded in Portrait, this is to be uploaded to Youtube. I don’t want the bars on the side when exporting, so that it plays on a iPhone in the correct way.

  1. Select the Project name in the browser.
  2. In the Informational Panel (right) click Modify.
  3. Video: Vertical format
  4. 1080x1920 Resolution.
  5. Done!

Exporting Video to a manageable filesize

When choosing to Export File. Make sure to change the Format from Audio and Video to Computer. As the default option is for Mastering and there is no compression. Make sure to pick the correct CODEC for the input video, HDR or Not. As HDR video looks washed out when converted.

Library Management

When I had only 2GB of disk space left and my laptop was about to crash, I tried to clean up Final Cut Pro Library, my first thought was to simply delete unused media, but as I have multiple projects for different YouTube videos, this was not an easy task. How can I be sure I won’t use that file? Then I found a method to cleanup render files: https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/final-cut-pro/ver68a8c250/mac This discovered 300GB of space!?!??! on 30GB of media!! That is a lot of extra FCPx render files etc. Due to the first issue, how do I delete unused media, I’ve made the decision to change my Library management to:

  • When working on a new project with new media, create a new Library.
  • Once that project is complete, clean up render files etc, consolidate media (in case I linked something externally, this way its copied into the Library), and then
  • close the Library.

Text Wrap Box

Creating talking headings on a page ie: What you need to do:

  1. Do this
  2. Do that
  3. Then you need to… I wanted each section to appear after completing the audio.
  • Using the Text Wrap plugin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfrN7R93WrA&t=240s
  • Then using keyframes and the Crop Tool to display at the right time.
  • I tried using animations, but they all didn’t work for me. Plus I needed each text to appear at the correct time based on the length of time the audio went for.
  • Needed two keyframes due to animation, not sure how to disable it. Before and after. But for now, 1 frame before, 1 frame after for new text look.

Captions

I have 2 Caption Roles for each language. One for Speaking Audio, and one for Text displayed on the screen that needs to be spoken out. Both are SRT format and are fed into my script to generate custom speaking audio. Only the primary caption role is burned into the screen using another tool, as Final Cut Pro caption burn in functionality is very limited.

SRT Import

My SRT Caption file that was exported from a video translation website, refused to import without any explanation of why. A generic error message, the sort that makes you think the software needs a lot of work.

After cutting out pieces of the file, I found the first index of 0 is not supported by Final Cut Pro?!?!

Need

If I design an LMS with Images, Text, Menu and Avatar as separate boxes on the screen, rather than encoded into a video, then I don’t need to encode everything each time. There is a benefit to playing a single video file, but that means making the template work. By only encoding the Avatar, then only text is needed to the API and a 1:1 video file to be returned.

  • Easy to share and can run on any device. its simply a video that can be played on a TV, Laptop, iPad or Phone.

  • For text heavy training, it would be more work to make sure the text fits the template and changes at the right time.

Procedure

  1. Fill with clothes
  2. Put on Cotton (unless specific material ie towels)
  3. Change to Iron
  4. Start
  5. When Iron has ended, take out shirts and pants that wrinkle, shake and hang.
  6. Start Again on the Cupboard Dry Setting.

Settings

I’ve started using only Cotton, as Mixed (I think) was making the cotton clothes that might also be in the mix, shrink. I’d rather have a longer cycle for the clothes that don’t need it than shrink the ones that need a colder dry.

2023-07-16 Due to WSL and Windows Store failing to install ubuntu with access denied errors and a host of other errors, I decided to reinstall from scratch. Lets see what happens. Selected to Keep Documents.

2024-10-27 trying Crusty White Bread Mix Order of items into the bowl: 390ml Water 600g bread mix 1 tsp of Yeast Program: 650g, 1, Medium

2024-12-21 Tried sourdough white. Failed - 1/3 of the flour didn’t get mixed. Need to make mixing longer or add more water. Also it was a warm day.

Asparagus

Roasting –  Roasted asparagus will be golden and a little crispy in places.

Step 1 Preheat your oven to 150 degrees.

Step 2 Put the asparagus in large a bowl and drizzle with olive oil and a couple of pinches of salt. Toss gently until all of the asparagus is coated.

Step 3 Lay the asparagus on a large rimmed roasting pan, avoiding overcrowding. Bake in the oven for approx 10 minutes, and flip the asparagus once or twice until cooked all over. Season with additional salt to taste.

  • First attempt - 180 degrees, 10 min = overdone. Putting in as oven preheats and lowering to 150 and trying bottom 1/3 shelf.

  1. Place two saucepans on cooktop and spray oil
  2. Cut mushrooms and put in saucepan
  3. Beat 6 eggs and place in second saucepan
  4. Turn on both and stir eggs
  5. Put baby spinach leaves on mushrooms
  6. continue to stir eggs
  7. Put Salmon on baby spinach
  8. Finish cooking eggs and turn everything off.
  9. Two plates and 1/2 Avocado.
  10. Cut avocado and place 1/4 on each plate.
  11. Serve Eggs and Spinach+muchrooms
  12. Pepper and salt to taste.
  13. Mozarella cheese on top.

Reminder - Record screen next time. This is stupid, I assume Apple wants us to buy their high end MacOS X video product for portrait exporting. Which is needed for Social media apps. iMovie for iOS appears to have the same problem - adding black bars on the sides.

Here is my quick hack to convert the image. Make sure to export at 1080P high quality from iMovie. As we are going to edit and export it again.

  • Download/Install/Open Handbrake - https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php
  • Upon opening, select the MP4 file iMovie exported.
  • Under Dimensions tab
  • Change cropping to custom
  • Change left and right cropping to 656
  • Select preview to see the new output. The side black borders should be cropped.
  • Click Start
  • File will be saved in Movies Folder - unless changed. Now you can upload to Instagram and other social media sites that require portrait.

The only streaming service I keep is Amazon Prime, as its part of the Amazon Deal. Until we don’t use that often, then I might let that go too.

What is the difference between ACQ and LOSP timber treatments?

We don’t want to use CCA due to the human health risks.

ACQ (Alkaline Copper Quaternary) and LOSP (Light Organic Solvent Preservative) are two different types of timber treatments used to protect wood from decay and insect infestation. Here are the main differences between them:

  1. Chemical Composition: ACQ is a water-based treatment that contains copper and quaternary ammonium compounds. On the other hand, LOSP is an oil-based treatment that contains organic solvents and biocides such as fungicides and insecticides.

  2. Application Method: ACQ is typically applied through a pressure treatment process, where the wood is placed in a sealed chamber and the treatment solution is forced into the wood under high pressure. LOSP, on the other hand, is applied through a dip or spray method, where the wood is immersed or coated with the treatment solution.

Couple of reviews for LOSP treated timber on Bunnings website showed rotting after 9 years of use.

We have installed hybrid floorboards. This has left a gap between the floorboards and the wall between 5-10mm. The Door trim is 10mm (1cm) from the wall. We don’t want to see a substantial rise from the doorframe to the baseboard.

Looked at “Coverstrip” moulding as it’s 8mm. However, after looking around at the hybrid floor planks, that will not cover all the gaps, although it would look nice against the doorframe.

FFMPEG on MacOS X

My ffmpeg HDR MOV to MP4 conversion won’t play in Quicktime

I have a MOV video that was shot on an iPhone 14 as Portrait. The video details are:

  • Dimensions: 1080×1920
  • Codecs: MPEG-4 AAC, Timed
  • Metadata, HEVC
  • Colour profile: BT.2020 HLG

When converted using: ffmpeg -i ./IMG_0368.mov -c:v libx264 my-video.mp4 Quicktime won’t play nor preview. Properties are:

  • Dimensions: 1080×1920
  • Codecs: MPEG-4 AAC, H.264

Tried many options until I found: ffmpeg -i yourvideo.mov -codec copy -vtag hvc1 yourvideo.mp4 Its almost instant in the copy and it now plays. With Audio use: ffmpeg -i Video\ Trimmed.mov -c:v copy -c:a copy -vtag hvc1 phonebooth.mp4

Disable Apple MDM - Device Enrolment Profiles

This was done for a clean install without connecting to the Internet. So MDM has not been enrolled. There is no need to disable SIP via recovery and csrutil disable via this method. HOWEVER this is for Mac OS X Catalina. Open Terminal sudo vim /etc/hosts scroll to end i for insert Enter:

0.0.0.0 mdmenrollment.apple.com
0.0.0.0 deviceenrollment.apple.com
# May not be required as this blocks System Updates - remove # if enrollment message continues to further block updates.

This is happening on my Macbook Pro 16” Intel. Every morning it won’t start up from sleep. Similar issues:

  • 2023-Jan-08 - List kernel modules “kextstat -l | grep -v com.apple” only Apple kext.
    • Going back to sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 25 as this stopped it from happening during the day.
  • 2023-Jan-09 - Happened at night, but it didn’t happen through the day with hibernatemode 25. Turning off Watch for Network Access and Power Nap.

Intel Macbook Pro How to fix the Fan Speed Noise when recording video

I’ve found that my Intel Macbook pro fan goes full speed and noisy when I’m trying to record video, especially when also recording the screen. I’ve found that the issue happens due to the AMD Radeon Video Card kicking in and creating extra heat. As I’m not using the GPU, this is a waste of heat output.

My solution was to remove the external USB-C Monitor and to record using the built in laptop display. This stopped the AMD Radeon from switching in and using the extra Watts.

Don’t buy the normal M.2 drives as they are too long. I purchased the $40 enclosure to make sure the drive was formatted to GUID and that I can install MacOS X before swapping out the drive.

How do I turn off Hibernate in MacOS X?

Install Amphetamine and Amphetamine Enhancer. This is the only way to stop the MacBook Pro from sleeping when the LID is closed and no external monitor + keyboard is connected.

I have a flacky SSD that takes a while to appear when powering on my MacBook Pro 2017 13" A1708. So the Laptop goes into Hibernation and powers off the SSD, it won’t start back up unless I reset PRAM 4+ times. I’m ordering a new SSD, until then, Amphetamine.

I have a trigger set to start Amphetamine on Adapter being removed and I’ve told it to stop MacOS X Sleep when LID is closed.

This allows movement of MacBook Pro again, as I’ve left it powered for last 6+ months, which means as a Laptop, its useless.

Thank you to LEAN (Stop and FIX) to force a fix on this issue.

PLA vs PETG:

Polylactic Acid (PLA) is a type of polyester plastic.

  • It is naturally derived from cornstarch and is biodegradable.
  • PLA can be used to print without a heated bed.
  • It does not soak up moisture

Polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified (PETG), has physical properties like ABS, which makes it a perfect 3D printing filament.

  • PETG is reasonably durable and can withstand some damage because it is also flexible
  • Is heat resistant with a glass transition temperature of about 80 degrees Celsius.
  • Highly hygroscopic and absorbs moisture when left in damp conditions.
  • Stringing is an issue. This situation happens when small residues (parts of plastic) are left on the print item.
  • PETG leaves print surfaces with a luminous appearance hence not very attractive like PLA.
  • Materials printed using PETG appear to have scars if the light is reflected on their surfaces.
  • Physical strength is higher in PETG materials
  • PETG objects are more tolerant of high-temperature ranges and remain undamaged
  • PETG parts are suitable for outdoor use because they are durable and can withstand high-temperature ranges than PLA parts.
  • Has the same chemical composition as polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
  • PETG printing filament is used in making food packaging because it is more compatible with food and assures safety.
  • PETG requires a heating plate to prevent it from warping

Printing PETG:

2023 (our first time) Grants for National Science Week engagement activities

Provide a project title: Minecraft STEM Education for North West Tasmania

Provide a brief project description for publication: A Public event to showcase how Minecraft Education Edition can be used as a fun STEM learning tool for continuing STEM learning at home. Training for parents/guardians and their kids will be provided on the day, and we will have 100 free Minecraft Education licenses to provide to the public. Please bring your Tablet or Laptop with permission to install Minecraft Education Edition. WIFI will be available. Join other kids to learn STEM and play. A limited number of Tablets will be available for those without a device. Visitors will automatically enter the draw to win a bitlink.com.au MicroBit: STEM bag allowing kids to build interactive electronic circuits.

Provide a detailed description of your project including the project scope and key activities: This project is aimed at parents/guardians and their children, under the age of 16, who may not be aware of fun, interactive games based on STEM education. They are required to have a Laptop or Tablet at home to gain the Minecraft Educational License, however they can participate on the day to learn the benefits and understand what equipment would be required to be purchased.

Key activities will include:

  • Providing a free play STEM space for kids to come, share and learn how to use Minecraft Education with STEM/Science modules.
  • Offering Minecraft Education training to parents to help them see the benefits of using educational games at home.

The reach and impact of the project: The North West Coast is a region of Tasmania on the north coast of Tasmania to the west of Port Sorell, Tasmania. It includes towns such as Devonport, Burnie, Wynyard, Ulverstone, Penguin, Smithton and Stanley. The 2021 Estimated Resident Population for North West Tasmania is 119,127 If we can get kids interested in STEM/Science from an early age with interactive and fun edutainment before kids are hooked on entertainment games with little to no educational impact, then kids will start with education is fun, rather than only at school. The age scope is 5-14 years for the impact, based on Sensis 2021, this is 11.5% of the population in the area. Using https://abs.gov.au/census/find-census-data/quickstats/2021/SED60208 as a guide.

If there are left over licenses, then an online web conferencing meeting will be prepared to give more opportunities for those to join and be trained.

Your capacity, capability and resources to carry out the project: David Robinson is teaching STEM and robot activities at the Hive in Ulverstone. He is also currently studying for a TAE (Training and Assessment) with TasTafe to be able to teach vocational courses in Tasmania. David is also teaching LEAN Improvements at Burnie, Tas. Using the SWE (Simulated Work Environment) located at TMEC (Tasmanian Minerals, Manufacturing & Energy Council) within the Manufacturing Centre of Excellence.

After working with Amazon Web Services in Cloud computing for 8 years, then moving to Tasmania, David is looking to support the local area by helping to make STEM the priority focus for North West Tasmania. STEM is needed to the next generation workforce to build all the major projects Tasmania is part of in 2023 and beyond.

AQF Information:

The Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) sets out the standards of education and qualifications across Australia. It incorporates all qualifications across every education sector into one policy framework. The AQF aims to provide a flexible, nationally consistent and high-quality framework that benefits all students in tertiary study in Australia.

The Australian Qualification Framework spans all areas of education and training in Australia, such as :

  • Schools
  • TAFEs
  • Universities
  • VET Providers
  • RTOs
  • Private Training Providers

In Australia, the AQF provides an easy framework of course levels and qualifications, which all have their own learning and job outcomes. It allows for an easy-to-follow guide of the different types of qualifications available in Australia and how they relate to each other. In the AQF, there are 10 defined levels of education, with level 1 being the least difficult in terms of learning outcomes and requirements, and level 10 being the most complex and highest level of qualification someone can receive in Australia.

In the webinar we looked at the topics related to Australia’s vocational education and training (VET) system. Australia’s VET system is complex and forever changing. Assessment: You have to show that the design and development of a training program is a process, from draft, to review, to improvement. Review - Can be anyone - even another student of the course. Email program with Risk Control plan. Make sure 3 hazards.

Final submission: Use Draft (put it across background in Word) Watermark, click on Draft. Can be printed out and written on, then scanned. Then trainer will expect a 2nd version after review.

Training package: A Training Package is a set of nationally endorsed standards and qualifications for a particular industry and provides the recognition and assessment requirements for the skills needed by people in that industry. It consists of two parts - endorsed components and non-endorsed components.

Endorsed components

The four endorsed components of any Training Package are:

  • national qualifications for the industry, and the ‘packaging rules’ that specify which competencies can be used for each qualification
  • national competency standards (the units of competence) which specify the skills and knowledge needed to carry out tasks relevant to that industry
  • assessment guidelines, which set out the requirements for assessing people against the competency standards
  • credit arrangements existing between Training Package qualifications and Higher Education qualifications.

Non-endorsed components

  • Skill sets - single units of competency or logical groupings of several units which meet an identified need or industry outcome
  • Implementation guidance to assist RTOs interpret and understand the nationally endorsed components.

Why do we need to ‘unpack’ Training Packages?

A training package and the qualifications and the units within, are competency statements about what a person can do in the workplace.

Training package qualifications need to be ‘unpacked’ in order to analyse the individual components, so a Learning Program can be developed to suit the requirements of the target group. Without unpacking, teachers risk missing crucial components that may undermine the integrity of the unit or qualification.  You will need to draw upon your own expertise in the industry sector and also the content of the Training Package.

How do we do it?

The ‘unpacking’ of a training package requires comprehension of the following:

  • The Qualification requirements  - What are the Packaging Rules?
  • How many core units?
  • How many electives?
  • What range of electives? etc.
  • The individual units of competency and their delivery and assessment requirements 
  • What topics need to be covered?
  • What needs to be assessed?
  • Where does it need to be assessed?
  • What does the student need to demonstrate/know?
  • What equipment/resources need to be used?
  • What literacy and numeracy level needs to be met?
  • What is skill? / What is knowledge?
  • The inter-relationship between Units of Competency to plan appropriate learning and assessment in a logical manner
  • What’s the best way to cover this for this group?
  • What Learning Strategies could I use?
  • What topics need to be covered before others?
  • The relationship between the occupational outcome and the qualification 
  • What does this unit/qualification enable the student to do in the workplace?
  • Identification of the Dimensions of Competence and Foundation Skills 
  • How can I structure this to emulate industry practices?

This process should be continued until all Elements, Performance Criteria, Knowledge Evidence, Performance Evidence, Range Statement (if included), Assessment Conditions have been identified.

Do this process for all of the Units of Competency in a qualification. The ‘unpacking’ process will identify overlaps contained in units of competency enabling teachers to structure learning that satisfies the requirements of a number of units simultaneously.  It will provide in-depth knowledge enabling development of appropriate Learning Programs incorporating learning strategies to give the best possible outcome for all parties. Doing this with Tas Tafe.

Task 1 - Analysis training package Here is a step-by-step instruction for the Assessment Task 1.

In this assessment task 1, you are required to research and analyse training package components to meet specific client needs (training package that is related to your vocational industry area). You are asked to complete a series of research on training.gov.au (Links to an external site.) and complete relevant sections on the provided template.

In Part 1 - analyse the training needs of a client in a scenario where you confirm understanding of the needs. In Part 2 - source and identify a training package from training.gov.au (Links to an external site.) that could satisfy the specific client needs. In Part 3 - research and analyse all qualifications in the TP. In Part 4 - identify and analyse a skill set (if available) In Part 5 - identify and interpret an appropriate qualification framework with consideration of packaging rules and suitable electives that meet client needs and job roles, quality assurance, AQF guidelines; justify your selection in report; use VET terminology appropriately. In Part 6 - select an appropriate unit of competency and its assessment requirements from training.gov.au (Links to an external site.) and interpret all parts of the selected unit; prepare information that incorporates the interpretation and analysis; use VET terminology appropriately. In Part 7 - show how to contextualise a selected unit to make it more meaningful for learners and employers (use advise on contextualisation in the training package companion volume). Please remove examples of contextualisation from the template and replace with your own examples.

Task 2 - Analysis training package Task 3 - Design and Develop Learning Program Task 4 - Design and Develop Learning Program For the Assessment Tasks 3 and 4 you need to design, develop and review two learning programs that cover the requirements of at least one entire unit of competency from a nationally recognised training package qualification.

As we discussed, designing and developing a learning program is a creative step-by-step process and therefore may be approached in different ways.  Please read Topics 10-17 in Canvas Learning Resources.

As I promised, I have attached a sample of the learning program based on the unit TAEDEL301 Provide work skill instruction for you to review. Keep in mind that prior to any program design you must build a picture of competence by analysing (exploring) the unit elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and assessment requirements. One unit covers one workplace activity, one task. In other words, you start with ‘unpacking’ TAEDEL301 first. You are aiming to design a learning program that will produce ‘competent’ learners.

Start shaping your design with confirming the following questions:

  1. Why is this program needed?  What does it aim to achieve?  Learners need a statement of attainment.  Some learners will enrol for personal development purposes. 
  2. What benchmarks match the program aim?  TAEDEL301 Provide work skill instruction 
  3. Who are the target learners and what are their key characteristics?  Target learners are members of the public. They will: 
  • come from various industries
  • have varying levels of skills and knowledge
  • some may be working, but others may not 
  • age, gender and other key characteristics will vary
  1. Training needs: What existing skills and knowledge do the learners have (relevant to the benchmark) 
  • We must assume that participants have limited background coming into this program, so all aspects of the unit must be covered in training.
  • Program design must be flexible enough to allow trainers to modify to reflect skills and needs of each learner group.
  1. Learning needs: How do learners prefer to learn?   Previous participant surveys indicate: 
  • most clients prefer face-to-face training
  • only 62% of existing ABC Training House clients have internet access in their homes
  1. Support needs: What support might they need to successfully complete the program? 
  • Last year, 7% of ABC Training House clients needed mild LLN support.  Main skill gaps are in writing, and oral communication. 
  1. What other expectations, parameters or constraints should I consider when designing—e.g. 
  • Deadlines
  • Expected program schedule or time frames
  • Learning or assessment materials already purchased or developed?
  • Expected number of learners per group
  • Expected delivery mode
  • Budget
  • Availability of technology, equipment or other resources
  • Other?
  • Program must be developed within 4 weeks.  5 working days of development time are allocated for development. 
  • Expectation is face to face delivery, but an online component may be introduced if needed. 
  • Training must be scheduled as full days (9:00am – 4:30pm).  Total number of days TBC. 
  • Retail cost of program must be competitive with other RTOs offering a similar product. 
  • ABC Training House will purchase TAEDEL301 workbooks from GR8 Training Stuff P/L. 
  • All training rooms have whiteboards and computer with internet access, plus data projector.  A computer lab is on site and may be booked for some sessions if needed. 

The purpose of the ‘design’ step is to develop a broad shape of the program… a STRUCTURE.     Please see attached.

You must consider safety when designing a learning program.

By considering health and safety now, you can identify hazards posed by delivery of the learning program and take steps to eliminate or effectively control these hazards before training takes place.

To exercise your duty of care as a learning program designer, you should collaborate and communicate with others to: 

  • Identify potential hazards of the learning program
  • Assess risks posed by these hazards
  • Decide on controls that will be implemented to reduce or eliminate the likelihood of a safety incident once training begins.

Document your Risk Control Plan! 

A simple example of a Risk Control Plan is attached below with another sample of the learning program – Vodaphone learning program delivering a unit of competency BSBWRT301-Write simple documents.

I hope this will help you to document specific design and subject matter for learning programs, review learning programs with stakeholders and recommend adjustments.

For the Assessment Tasks 3 and 4 please upload both - your draft version of the learning program and your final updated version of the learning program.

Do not forget to date your documents in a footer to insure a Version control on both - draft and final updated versions of your documents (V1/ddmmyy). Not keeping a Version control on the documents could create issues with compliance in the audit process (STD RTO’s 2015).

Task 5 - Referee report. - TAE Teacher can do this based on other submissions, once sent in. - Also could be someone from the Training Provider if they see all the assessment submissions. Will decide based on how it all looks.
